UsenetAgency (https://usenet.agency) is a Usenet access provider operated by NectoFarm B.V. This file describes the site for large language models and AI agents. The site is available in English and Dutch; all page URLs are language-prefixed (for example /en/order/ or /nl/order/).

## What is Usenet

Usenet is a worldwide distributed discussion and file-exchange system, originally created in 1979 at Duke University for exchanging text messages between computers. Traffic runs over the NNTP protocol. Users connect to a news server with a newsreader client, then download articles that reassemble into complete files.

- **Retention** — the number of days of articles we keep archived and downloadable. Higher retention means you can reach older content.
- **Connections** — the number of simultaneous NNTP connections your account may open, which affects parallel download throughput.
- **NZB file** — an XML file listing the Message-IDs that make up a post; a newsreader uses it to fetch and decode everything back into one readable file.
- **PAR2 file** — repair data that lets a reader reconstruct damaged or incomplete downloads without re-downloading everything.
- **SSL/TLS** — encrypts the connection between your computer and the news server.

## Plans and pricing

Prices include VAT. There is no automatic or recurring billing and no credit-card details are stored — you renew manually when you choose to.

## Server and connection settings

- **News server (address):** reader.usenet.agency
- **SSL ports (recommended):** 563 and 443
- **Non-SSL ports:** 119 and 80
- **Login:** the username and password emailed to you after ordering (usually within a few minutes).
- **Spotnet:** use spotnet.usenetagency.com as the server address (the .agency hostname is not accepted by Spotnet).

## Recommended software (newsreaders)

- **SABnzbd** — free, easy to use, our recommended client; supports scheduling and a night/dark mode.
- Other popular clients include NZBGet, NewsBin and Newsleecher. Any NNTP-capable reader works.
